Education & Employability

Reading and number partners

In London, Liberty volunteers provide support to develop literacy and numeracy skills in inner city schools. The Reading and Number scheme is organised and run by Lloyd’s as part of the Lloyd’s Community Programme (LCP).

Established in 1989, the Lloyd’s Community Programme is one of the longest-running business volunteering initiatives in the City of London. The LCP encourages volunteering and acts as a catalyst for the Lloyd’s market to empower people in our neighbouring London communities to achieve their potential. Through the LCP, a wide range of volunteering opportunities are offered across the Lloyd’s market to support local communities and equip young people with employability skills; which feeds into the Lloyd’s talent priority, aiming to attract and retain a diverse workforce that will bring innovation to the insurance sector.

This year, we had 17 volunteers dedicte their time to weekly sessions. In total, 225 hours were spent volunteering on the scheme.

I have really enjoyed working with my student – it was genuinely nice to see the enthusiasm in such a young child working with numbers.” Reading Partner volunteer
